After breakfast at your hotel, today you will have the guided sightseeing tour of Swayambhunath Stupa, Patan Durbar Square & Kathmandu Durbar Square. We first take the tour of Swayambhunath temple, also known as the MONKEY TEMPLE. This site is religious for the Hindus and Buddhist. Situated about 3 km. From the center of the city of Kathmandu, Nepal, at its northwestern limits, this Stupa or chorten's full name, Swayambhunath, means "the Self-manifested Lord". Swayambhunath is on a steep hill above the valley of Kathmandu, and is believed to derive from a time when, tradition says, the whole area was under the waters of a vast lake in a territory that was once home to nagas.
Our next tour site is the Patan Durbar Square, situated in the heart of the city, is the main tourist attraction. The square is full of ancient palaces, temples, and shrines noted for their exquisite carvings. One can rummage for treasures and souvenirs in the various shops around the square.The main attraction of Patan Durbar Square is the ancient Royal Palace itself. It consists of three main chowks, or courtyards: the central Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk and Main Keshab Narayan Chowk. In the northeastern corner of the courtyard is a triple-roofed octagonal tower, Teleju Bhawani Temple, built by King Shree Niwas Malla in 1667. Between the central Mul Chowk and Main Keshab Narayan Chowk there is the temple of Degu Taleju.
We then finally take the tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square (Palaces and fortresses of medieval Kings), along with other popular cultural attractions. We will be touring through the square into the old market place of Kathmandu. You will walk through the old local market, where you will find living style, small shops, local stores, and much more activities. We walk back to our hotel from Kathmandu Durbar Square, through the old local market of ASON, and through the touristy area of THAMEL.
