Kushinagar, known as Kusinārā in Pali and Kuśinagara in Sanskrit, is a town situated in the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Positioned 53 kilometers (33 miles) to the east of Gorakhpur on National Highway 27, Kushinagar holds significant importance as a renowned and revered Buddhist pilgrimage destination. It is widely believed among Buddhists that Kushinagar is the place where Gautama Buddha achieved parinirvana, the ultimate liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
