We will board a morning flight to Lukla. If we're fortunate enough and the weather is clear we will have a direct flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Otherwise, we will drive to Rammechhap and continue our journey to Lukla by air. In such case, you will be transferred early morning directly from Kathmandu to Manthali by a luxury private vehicle and will catch a flight from there to Lukla. Upon arrival in Lukla, we will gather with the rest of the team, organize our belongings, and commence trekking towards Chatunga. The trail takes us through lush forests and open fields. Chatunga, a small settlement consisting of a few stone houses, is nestled amidst towering cliffs and mountains. We will spend the night at a local teahouse in this picturesque location. We make our preparations and embark on our climb at 2 AM, with our headlights illuminating the way. We rope ourselves together and proceed, secured by a man-rope. Crossing the Mera Glacier, we ascend gradually. Although the terrain is not overly challenging to navigate, the cold air and thin oxygen levels hamper our progress. The most arduous and demanding part of the climb lies in the last 40-50 meters to the summit. Scaling a steep incline, we utilize fixed ropes and jumars to ascend to the snowy peak of Mera Peak. By around 9-10 AM, we reach the summit, rejoicing in our triumph and relishing the up-close vistas of Mount Everest (8,848m), Makalu (8,481m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Lhotse (8,516m), and Cho Oyu (8,201m). After capturing this historic moment through our cameras and leaving behind any mementos we brought, we begin our descent towards High Camp. We spend only a brief 5 to 10 minutes at the summit. Upon returning to the camp, the local crew warmly welcomes us with a hot beverage such as tea or coffee, or a nourishing soup. We take some time to rest before commencing a swift descent after lunch. We trek back down to Khare and make our way to a teahouse. In the evening, we celebrate our remarkable achievement, and later we retire for a well-deserved night's sleep. Our accommodation for the night will be at a teahouse in Khare.

Some FAQs about Mera Peak Climbing:

What is the best time to climb Mera Peak?

The optimal seasons for planning a Mera Peak climb are spring (March, April, May) and autumn (September, October, November). These periods offer favorable weather conditions, excellent visibility, and clear days. During spring, the Mera Valley's subtropical forests come alive with colorful blooms, adding to the scenic beauty of the trek. The temperature is relatively warmer during the spring months, making it comfortable for trekking and climbing in the mountains of Nepal, including Mera Peak. Both spring and autumn provide the best and most pleasant temperatures for the climb.

How challenging is the Mera Peak climb?

Do I need to be extremely fit for this endeavor? Although the technical aspects of Mera Peak climbing are relatively straightforward (with approximately 40-45 degrees of snow slopes for the ascent), the climb is demanding due to the high altitude and the presence of seasonal crevasses on the route. Therefore, it is essential to be well-prepared.

Climbers planning to tackle Mera Peak should be physically fit, active outdoor enthusiasts, and preferably have prior experience trekking in mountainous regions. Basic mountaineering skills are required to complete the final summit, but Mera Peak is considered less technically challenging compared to other climbing peaks in Nepal, such as Island Peak or Lobuche Peak.

Even without previous climbing experience, it is still possible to plan and undertake this climb. However, climbers must be mentally prepared for the challenges it presents and be in excellent overall health and physical condition. Having experience in glacier or ice climbing is advantageous, but not mandatory. Additionally, we organize a pre-climbing session at the Mera Peak base camp to provide you with basic mountaineering skills, which will be highly beneficial for your climb.

Is Mera Peak Climbing a Group or Private Trip?

Typically, the trip to Mera Peak Climbing is organized as a small group departure. Nevertheless, you have the flexibility to select your preferred departure date according to your convenience.

Where is Mera Peak? How do we get there? Who will be guiding us?

Our Mera Peak climbing expedition is expertly guided by a highly experienced Sherpa guide with over a decade of Himalayan climbing expertise. Fluent in English, our climbing guides are not only well-versed in first aid but also eco-trained, ensuring a responsible and sustainable approach to mountaineering. Rest assured, our climbing guides possess official licenses issued by the Government of Nepal's Department of Tourism, and they are certified by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. Moreover, they have undergone rigorous training with the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, which is a proud member of the prestigious Associations of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA).
